The City's ADA/WLAD Policy supports reasonable access to services, programs, and activities of the City, and a creates procedure with which a person with disabilities can identify and request resolution of an accommodation within a service, program, and/or activity of local
government.

The City of Auburn does not discriminate based on a person’s disability. It is the policy of the City to provide persons with disabilities the opportunity to participate in, or benefit from, services, activities, and facilities, where reasonably possible. The City shall provide reasonable
accommodation in compliance with the Americans With Disability Act (ADA) and the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD).


How to Request a Reasonable Accommodation

If you have a disability (as defined by RCW 49.60.040(7)) and need a reasonable modification or accommodation to access or participate in a City program, service, or activity, you may request an accommodation. You may first direct this request to the individual responsible for the program, service, or activity for which an accommodation is requested.

Please provide us with:

  • Your name and contact information (including address, phone number, and email)
  • An explanation of your disability that limits your ability to participate in a City of Auburn program or service
  • A description of the program, service, or activity you cannot access due to your disability and what you believe are the barriers to access or participation
  • Your proposed accommodation or resolution

The City will respond to your request as soon as practicable and communicate whether it has been approved, denied, or if additional information is needed.

How to File a Complaint

If you believe the City has failed to provide an accommodation or has denied access, you may file a complaint by using our Accommodation Complaint Form or by contacting the same ADA Coordinator listed above. Such complaints should be submitted within 15 days of the denial of the request.

Please include:

  • Your name and contact information (including address, phone number, and email)
  • A description of the accommodation request that was made
  • The date the accommodation request that was made
  • How and to whom the accommodation request was made
  • A description of any actions taken in response to the request
  • The reason given for denial, if applicable
  • Your proposed resolution

A written response and description of the accommodation/resolution, if any, shall be issued by the ADA Coordinator and sent to the complainant no later than 30 calendar days after the complaint is received, unless the complexities of the complaint require additional time. The accommodation or resolution may not be the same as requested.


Measures to support Web accessibility

City of Auburn, WA takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of the City of Auburn Website:

  • Appoint an accessibility officer and/or ombudsperson.
  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The City of Auburn Website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
