FAQ
Who is my attorney?
If you qualify for assigned counsel, an attorney will be appointed to represent you for your current court case. Remember, you must appear in court on the next scheduled court date regardless of whether you have had contact with an assigned attorney. Failure to appear may result in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest.
How do I contact my attorney?
Once a determination has been made, instructions on how to contact the attorney's office will be provided to individuals who are verified to meet the qualifications. If you qualify for assigned counsel, you will need to get in touch with the public defense office within 7-10 days after you have been appointed.
What if I don't qualify for a public defender?
Once you have been screened, if it has been determined you are not eligible for public defense, you may wish to hire a private attorney to represent you in your case. Resources for finding private legal assistance can be found at the King County Bar Association website
