Join us for a special presentation, given by author Kathya Alexander! She will be reading an excerpt from her debut novel-in-verse, KEEP A' LIVIN', a coming-of-age tale that follows 12-year-old Mandy and her mother, Belle, as they both experience the extraordinary events of the Civil Rights Movement, finding strength, fearless, and faith along the way.

An audience Q&A will also be held shortly after, focusing on how the gains of the Civil Rights era are being legally dismantled in the current political climate and focusing on injustices suffered by African Americans.

Painterly monotype printWorking from a photo or drawing, learn how to break down your image into a sketch of basic lines and shapes, identify the values (darks and lights) of each shape, then how to use your sketch as a guide as you apply layers of ink to a plexiglass plate, wipe or draw detail into ink, then print ink onto printmaking paper- building successive layers in order to create an individual Monotype masterpiece!

Classes emphasize hand building lessons for youth and their parents. Making pottery together is a great way to spend time together! Clay has a way in bringing out the joyful and playful spirit within us. No experience necessary, all supplies are provided. BOTH child and parent must register for class.

Alongside all the fun happening downtown on Saturday, December 7, Postmark will be offering three different holiday arts crafts accompanied by warm cocoa and delicious cookies. Register to drop in any time between 12:30-3pm to make and take your crafts.

Each individual must register to craft and have a cookie and cocoa.

Cookie decoratingHave you ever wondered how bakers create showstopping cookie designs? Join Postmark Center for the Arts for an evening with Tara Trujillo and learn how to flood, pipe and decorate sugar cookies! Each student will leave with basic knowledge of how to create cookie masterpieces using Royal Icing. Participants will get dozen cookies, 3 icing colors and assorted sprinkles.
