Notice of Road Closure 

CP2321 - Downtown Infrastructure Improvements (PDF)

Project Limits:
East Main Street from Auburn Avenue to B Street NE, and Auburn Avenue from East Main Street to 1st Street NE. Please see the map on the reverse side of this flyer.

Project Purpose:
This project will replace aging underground utilities and surface infrastructure making downtown Auburn more attractive and accessible for residents and visitors.

Description of Work and Schedule:
Full road closures of E Main St and Auburn Ave, as depicted on the attached map, will begin on June 2, 2025, and continue through the end of August 2025. Construction will include upgrading underground utilities, reconstructing sidewalks and roadways, installing new street lighting and an enhanced pedestrian crossing, and replacing the traffic signal at E Main St and Auburn Ave. B St Plaza reconstruction will also be completed during the closure.

Additional Information:
We are dedicated to causing as little impact on residents and businesses as possible. However, you should anticipate traffic impacts and noise caused by construction activities. Despite the road closures, all downtown businesses and residences will remain open and accessible. The City has coordinated dedicated parking options and wayfinding signage to help patrons navigate safely to shops, restaurants, and services within the project area. Construction activities are limited to daytime hours (7:00 am and 7:00 pm), night work is not expected. If night work becomes necessary, a separate notice will be distributed in advance of the night work activities.

CP1622 Auburn Way S (SR-164) Hemlock to Poplar (PDF)

Project Limits:
Auburn Way South between Hemlock Street SE and Redwood Court. Please see the map on the PDF flyer.

Project Description:
The project will improve the motorized and non-motorized element in this section of the corridor by providing a widen road to include two through lanes in each direction, curb, gutter, sidewalk, intermittent center medians, bus pullouts, an enhanced pedestrian crossing, reconstruction and realignment of Poplar St SE, storm drainage, pavement overlay, and illumination.

Schedule:
Construction is scheduled to begin on March 24, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed in April 2026.

Additional Information:
This project will be construction in 6 phases. Phase 1 will be starting on March 24, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed by July 2025.

Phase 1 will take place between Hemlock Street SE and the roundabout installed by the Auburn School District. The existing traffic lanes will be shifted to the south to provide workspace for the contactor on the north side of the roadway. The contractor will be installing new storm drain infrastructure, curb, gutter and sidewalk.

CP2110 Regional Growth Center Access Improvements (PDF)

Closure Limits:

  •  Auburn Ave between 2nd St NE and 3rd St NE:  Full around-the-clock closure.
  •  3rd St NE between B St NE and Auburn Ave:  Eastbound closed around-the-clock.  No westbound restrictions.
  •  4th Street NE between Auburn Ave and Auburn Way N:  Eastbound closed around-the-clock.  No westbound restrictions.

Closure Schedule:
These closures are scheduled January 13, 2025 through February 28, 2025.  This schedule is weather dependent and may be modified without notice.

Notice of Road Work

CP2110 Regional Growth Center Access Improvements (PDF)

Project Limits:
Auburn Avenue/4th Street NE between 3rd Street NE and Auburn Way N.  Please see the map on the PDF flyer.

Project Description:
This project will replace outdated infrastructure and introduce a host of improvements designed to enhance traffic flow and safety.  The upgrades will address current deficiencies and bring the area up to the City’s downtown design standards.  

Key components of the project include:

  • Utility Replacements.  Portions of the existing water, sewer, and storm drainage lines will be replaced.
  • Improved Curb Radii.
  • New Pavement and Wider Sidewalks.
  • Upgraded Traffic Signals and Street Lighting.
  • New Pedestrian Crossing.  A new north/south pedestrian crossing will be installed at the 3rd Street NE/Auburn Avenue intersection.
  • New Left Turn Lane.  A dedicated left turn lane will be added for northbound traffic on Auburn Avenue turning onto westbound 3rd Street NE.
  • Reconfigured Traffic Lanes.  Traffic lanes on 4th Street NE intersection will be reconfigured to improve the efficiency of the traffic signal at Auburn Way N and 4th Street NE.

Schedule:

Construction is scheduled to begin on September 24, 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in August 2025.

Improvement Projects Notice

R Street SE Improvement Projects Flyer (PDF)

Work is underway on three projects that will address traffic congestions, safety, and other infrastructure issues on R Street SE between 17th Street SE and the White River: 

  • R Street SE Preservation - 33rd Street SE to White River Bridge (NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
  • R Street SE / 21st Street SE Roundabout (CONSTRUCTION IN 2026)
  • R Street SE Widening - 22nd Street SE to 33rd Street SE (CONSTRUCTION IN 2026/2027)

Notice of Road Work:

CP2315 – R Street SE Preservation – 33rd St SE to 37th Way SE Project Flyer (PDF)

Project Limits:
R Street SE between 33rd St SE and 37th Way SE (White River Bridge).  Please see the map on the flyer.

Project Description:
The City of Auburn will begin construction to grind and overlay the pavement on R Street SE between 33rd Street SE and the White River Bridge. The project will include:

  • A new 12-foot wide multi-use pathway on the east side of the street
  • A new 7-foot wide sidewalk on the west side
  • A three-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane

The revised roadway and multi-use pathway will improve side street access and safety for non-motorized users in the corridor.

Schedule:
Construction is anticipated to start in Spring 2024 and continue through Fall 2024.

Additional Information:
Work hours will primarily occur from Monday through Friday, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Traffic lanes will be shifted during construction. Between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, traffic may be reduced to a single alternating lane during portions of the project. Outside of that time period, two lanes of traffic will be maintained.
Posted speed limits during the project construction will be reduced throughout the work zone. Please pay attention to speed limits for the safety of our workers!
