Cheryl Rakes

Cheryl has been a dedicated advocate for Auburn for many years. She joined the City Council in 2023 when appointed and was elected to a four-year term in 2024. In 2025, her leadership and commitment were recognized with the national Excellence of Women’s Award.

Since 2019. Cheryl has served as Executive Director of the Downtown Auburn Cooperative, working to strengthen local businesses and foster community pride. A lifelong Auburn resident, she moved here at age five and graduated from Auburn High School—making her passion for our city truly personal.

Cheryl has served on many committees while serving the council.  King County Board of Health, Transportation Advisory Board, Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee. She is also a member of the Noon Lions Club. The City of Auburn is her true passion and where she’s laid her permanent roots. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her three children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She also enjoys all kinds of crafts, such as sewing and crocheting. What she really loves is to be out in public with the residents of Auburn!
