Competitive Wages

We offer competitive wages with pay scales that include steps. This means a guaranteed raise on your anniversary date until you max out!

Medical Insurance

We offer different medical plans to fit your need, and pay 100% of the employee premium, and the majority of your dependents' premiums.

Dental Insurance

We offer two different dental plans to fit your needs, with the option to cover dependents as well!

Vision Insurance

We offer vision coverage for employees and their dependents at no cost through VSP Vision Care.

Paid Leave

Employees accrue four (4) hours of vacation time when starting out, and accruing up to 22 days per year based on length of City service.

Retirement

All regular employees are required to participate in the State of WA Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS); except Police who are members of the Law Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' Retirement (LEOFF). Employees and the City jointly contribute to these plans.

Volunteer Employees' Beneficiary Association (VEBA)

VEBA is a group, tax-free, pre-retirement and post-retirement medical savings account that covers many out-of-pocket medical expenses. Employees contribute to their VEBA accounts through a payroll deduction, and the City also contributes a percentage of base wages.

Flexible Spending Plan

Employees may participate in the Section 125 Health Care Expense Reimbursement and/or Child/Elder Care Expenses options.

Employee Assistance Program

The City has a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for regular employees and their dependents for help with personal, family, or job-related problems.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

The City pays 100% of the premiums for unaffiliated employees' long-term disability insurance through The Standard Life Insurance Company. Disability insurance for affiliated employees is governed by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Life Insurance

The City pays 100% of the premiums for a life insurance policy through The Standard Life Insurance Company for all employees.

Long Term Health Care

The City provides unaffiliated employees a base, long-term health care plan, with employee-paid "buy-up" options.

Wellness Program

We have a citywide committee designated to employee health and wellness! Activities range from lunch & learns with nutritionists, financial literacy and retirement prep, to cornhole in the summertime!

Commuter Program

Employees can receive up to $75 per month for Sound Transit vouchers, to be used for the bus or train. City Hall is just a block away from the Auburn Sounder Station!

Tuition Reimbursement

After one year of employment, employees may be eligible to receive up to $3,000 per year for tuition reimbursement toward a formal college degree.

Professional Development

We invest in our employees! We offer a variety of in-house development opportunities, external paid trainings, and skill training related to positions.

Auburn Community Fitness Membership

Auburn employees receive a free Fitness Membership, with unlimited access to fitness classes (both virtual and in-person), unlimited use of the Fitness Center, and open gym programs, PLUS discounts on several programs offered by Auburn Parks!

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Assistance

We partner with an agency called Summer, which provides our employees with a dashboard to manage their Public Service Loan Forgiveness applications and annual recertification, plus review their loans and repayment options.
